The Line up at Balenciaga Fall 2016 by Demna Gvasalia. Via @id_magazine.
Well, Demna Gvasalia’s first collection is nice, indeed. Over all it feels well put together and there are some looks that are great. As suspected. However, I think the diversity in the casting is just..a real shame. And it’s equally bad at Vetements. Which makes is sort of a statement I think? It’s nothing new with no diversity in shows though, it’s been bad forever but I do still feel as it’s gotten better just these past seasons even though it’s a hundred years to late, there is a change.
Everyone keeps talking about this new, modern direction with Vetements and Demna Gvasalias new role at Balenciaga..and I can’t help to think that diversity in casting needs and should be a part of that, no? Isn’t that the future (or what should be already but is not).
As for the new Balenciaga, I will be a forever fan of Nicholas Ghesquière’s time at the house, which sort of effects my opinion forever, I can’t say anything else, haha. I do miss some of the more structural shapes and high tech materials from the older days but. It looks good. Wantable. Casual and dressed up. Maybe a bit too close to Vetements but I guess that’s inevitable.
